Roland Hedley Twitter Account

As shown in this article on the Washington Post's site, Roland Hedley has created a Twitter account. Most people would ask why this is significant, which I also did. It's just another person on Twitter, but in reality it's not. It turns out Roland Hedley is a character in the comic strip Doonesbury. Gary Trudeau, the writer of Doonesbury, is making Twitter posts in the vain of his character.

The most pompous television correspondent on the planet is on Twitter, dishing what passes for wisdom but is actually just self-absorbed blather.

Another hissy fit from my tweet feed producer, who seems to have forgotten I discovered her at Hooters.

He is Roland Hedley, the long-sideburned Fox phony who gloms onto the latest media trend with inane intensity.

I hate America. There, I just said in 15 characters what Frank Rich needed 9,982 characters to say in his column today.

The posts are pretty ridiculous, but they beg the question what does this mean for Twitter? Now that there are cartoon characters giving their views on society, and random thoughts that pop into their head, could this be the beginning of Twitter as a new medium? Maybe taking the place of the Sunday comics. Or, maybe this is the beginning of the end of Twitter, because this idea may even be too ridiculous for Twitter. What do you think?

  • It is a good sign that Twitter is drawing upon different avenues of creating interest. Whether it be a comic character with witty lines or the fakeapstyle book that has actually become popular in its own right, Twitter has the ability to draw people from all different walks of light to things they are specifically interested in.
