Post-Dispatch steps up their multimedia (again)

I posted earlier this year about how my hometown newspaper, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, never had really done much in the way of multimedia (at least that I had seen) until this year. While browsing their site, however, I found two recent things that caught my eye.

The first is a package done on the 100 neediest cases in St. Louis. Every year around Thanksgiving, the paper runs a campaign featuring 100 needy cases and appeals to its readers for donations. This year, on the Web site, they put together a nice multimedia package, using videos, formal interviews, and pictures. What I found interesting was that the pictures were all hand-drawn, yet still very powerful emotionally.

The second thing I noticed was a package they put together on a flight that honored World War II veterans. This package used only pictures and voice-overs, but I thought it was still very well done.

After seeing that video in class about the challenges of disciplining high school students and our discussion about the usage of photos or video for multimedia packages, I thought that these two would be other interesting case studies, as they both use different methods to tell the story.
