Newspapers and online video

So, my mom told me about an interesting article she read in New York Magazine about online journalism and as it turned out I couldn't find it but I stumbled across this article about video making its way onto newspaper's Web site's and how it compares to that of television news. This article pretty much says that the Times and the Washington Post treat their online videos like television news casts and often don't add anything new or different that a typical television news segment couldn't' offer. The article then goes on to say that online video should offer something unique that television news does not offer like the mini-documentary that we watched about the football player. The article sites a video-journalist from the Washington Post who did a series of web docs about a man who had lost is son in 9/11, and this is the type of video journalism that this article proposes is best suited for the Internet. I think this article puts forth a very interesting point of view that online video-journalism has to be different from television news. Perhaps video online is what can save newspapers, because it has the possibility to offer these more developed, in depth, documentary-like stories.
