NASA Fans Tweet about Atlantis Launch

Last Monday NASA launched a space shuttle, the Atlantis, and for the first time ever 100 of "NASA's geekiest fans" as this article described them, were invited to tweet about the event. NASA fans were able to send out tweets the moment the shuttle launched as well as pictures from their iPhones and and BlackBerries. The article says NASA estimates that these NASA "tweeps" have over 150,000 followers. Many of these NASA tweeps are big NASA fans and are knowledgeable about space shuttles and NASA. Do you think that tweets, Facebook posts, or blogs like this from well-informed fans could become more valuable than live reports from media organizations? The sports writer Marc Carig who talked to us about his Twitter page for the Yankees already mentioned that many sports fans would now rather read blogs and Twitter pages during games, and perhaps other specific areas of interest will be reported this way too.
