Facebook New "Memorialize" Feauture

An AP article last month reported about Facebook's decision to memorialize the profiles of dead users, if their family and friends request it. Once a profile is memorialized the site would remove contact information and bar people from logging in. The deceased's profiles would not appear in the suggestions section either, and only their confirmed friends would be able to find them in searches. This new feature relates to the Poynter article in which a reporter used a Facebook profile to gain access to a deceased's friends and family contact information.
This memorialize feature would restrict a reporter's use of Facebook to find friends, family and acquantences of dead people. I do not necessarily think this obstacle is horrible news for journalists. Reporters should stick to the telephone and routine research, instead of personal online profiles, to gain access to sources when writing obituaries or crime stories. It is much a more transparent and less ethically-charged way of talking to people.
